I bought a one way ticket to Tulum for what was supposed to be a three month adventure. Four years later I'm writing this from the middle of the Indian Ocean. The cost of going was never the flight.

A cancelled flight, seven hours in Rome, a detour through Frankfurt and a 2am lockout. Then slow mornings, too much Trileçe, and a cable car up Dajti Mountain. Stop two on the scenic route.

A few months ago we packed up our life in Sydney and left, and Abu Dhabi was the first stop. We didn't choose it particularly, it came attached to the flight, and it turned out to be two of the quietest and strangest days of the whole trip.
